Terms of Use

SkateNav is a free, closed beta: you can join by invite or once we approve your request. These Terms are the rules for using it.

1. Who operates SkateNav

There is no company behind SkateNav; “we” and “us” mean the person named above. Provider details are on the Impressum page.

2. The beta

SkateNav is still being built. Expect bugs, interruptions, incomplete or inaccurate information, and features that change or disappear. We may limit the number of users or pause parts of the service. Do not rely on SkateNav as the only place you keep information that matters to you.

3. Accounts

You need an approved account, and you must be 18 or over. Children cannot have accounts; they appear only in records a parent or guardian creates to arrange lessons.

Use one personal account, give accurate information, keep your login secure and tell us if someone else gets into your account. Activity on your account is treated as yours unless we know, or should know, that it has been compromised.

Share invite links only with people you want to invite. We may disable a link that is abused.

4. Your Contributions

Spots, park information, photos, reviews, ratings, comments, sessions, events and suggestions you submit are your Contributions. You keep your rights in them, and give us a non-exclusive, worldwide licence to host, store, copy, resize, process and display them as needed to run SkateNav. You confirm that you have the right to post them.

If you delete a Contribution, we stop showing it. When you delete your account, Contributions that are part of the shared park database, such as ratings, reviews, park information and park photos, may stay where the law allows, shown as by “Deleted skater”.

5. What you must not do

• post anything unlawful, or that you do not have the right to post;
• infringe anyone’s copyright, privacy or other rights;
• harass, threaten or stalk anyone, or share their private information without a legitimate reason;
• impersonate anyone, or deceive or defraud;
• spread malware or interfere with SkateNav or other users’ devices;
• reveal a spot you have been asked to keep private, or one that would be unsafe or unlawful to publish;
• exploit or endanger children;
• post spam or disguised advertising; or
• misuse reporting, blocking or other safety tools.

6. Reports and moderation

You can report content or users with the tools in SkateNav, or report illegal content to admin@skatenav.eu, saying what it is, where to find it and why you believe it is illegal.

Depending on the case, we may take no action, limit or remove content, restrict features, or suspend or close an account. We decide on the basis of these Terms, the law and user safety, and may act immediately in serious cases. Where the law requires, we will explain a decision and how you can challenge it. Some content is also screened automatically when it is posted; see the Privacy Notice.

7. Parks, spots, sessions and events

Most information on SkateNav comes from other skaters and may be wrong or out of date. A listing does not mean a place is open, safe, legal to skate or in good condition, so check for yourself.

Sessions and events are organised by the host shown, not by SkateNav, and we do not supervise them.

Skating carries a real risk of injury. You decide what is right for you; wear protective gear and follow local rules.

8. Coaches and lessons

Coaches are independent and are not SkateNav’s employees or agents. A lesson is an arrangement between the coach and the person booking it. SkateNav does not sell lessons or handle payments.

An administrator grants the coach role by hand, after the person has provided:

• an extended certificate of conduct (erweitertes Führungszeugnis, § 30a BZRG);
• evidence of a coaching qualification;
• evidence of liability insurance for their coaching; and
• proof of identity.

We review these documents once, when the role is granted. We do not verify them with the issuer or monitor them afterwards, and the check is not a guarantee of a coach’s competence, suitability, insurance or conduct. Parents decide whether a coach is right for their child.

9. SkateNav’s intellectual property

Apart from your Contributions and third-party material such as maps and fonts, SkateNav’s software, design, text, branding and park database belong to us or our licensors. You may use SkateNav for its intended purpose. Unless the law allows it, you must not copy or redistribute substantial parts of it, systematically extract its database, scrape it in a way that harms the service, use its name or branding to suggest endorsement, get around access controls, or reverse engineer it.

10. Changes, suspension and ending access

We may change, add or remove features, for example to fix bugs, improve security or comply with the law. This will not cost you anything during the free beta.

You can delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account for serious or repeated breaches of these Terms, a security or safety risk, unlawful use, or where the law requires it, and will warn you first where appropriate. We may also end the beta or SkateNav altogether, with advance notice where practicable.

11. Liability

We are fully liable for intent and gross negligence, for negligent injury to life, body or health, and wherever liability is mandatory by law. For ordinary negligence we are liable only for breaching an essential contractual obligation (one the agreement depends on and you would normally rely on), and only for foreseeable damage typical of this kind of agreement.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as SkateNav develops. If a change materially affects your rights, we will tell you before it takes effect. The date at the top shows the current version.

13. Governing law and your statutory rights

German law applies. If you are a consumer living in another country, you keep the mandatory protections of that country’s law and your right to go to a court with jurisdiction. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under mandatory consumer or data-protection law.
