Privacy

SkateNav is a map of skateparks with sessions, events and profiles attached. This page describes what the app stores, why it stores it, and what you can do about it. It reflects what the software actually does rather than what is customary to claim.

What we store

• Your account. Email address and a password, held by our authentication provider. Passwords are hashed; nobody at SkateNav can read yours.
• Your profile. Handle, display name, avatar, nationality, stance, years skating, sponsors, the kinds of skating you do, and your preferred language. All of it optional except the handle, which is generated for you.
• What you do in the app. Sessions and events you host or join, park ratings, comments, photos you submit, spots you add or suggest edits to, parks you save, and check-ins.
• Check-in locations. Logging a visit records which park and when. Your location is used at that moment to work out which park you are at; we do not track you in the background.
• Social connections. Friends, friend requests, people you have blocked, and reports you have filed.
• Children, if you are a parent booking lessons. First name, birth year, skill level and any notes you add. See below.
• Notifications. In-app notifications, your notification preferences, and device tokens if you enable push.

Children’s data

A parent account can add children in order to book lessons. That record holds a first name, a birth year, a skill level and optional notes, and is visible to you, to a coach you send a booking request to, and to administrators. Children have no login and cannot use SkateNav themselves. You can delete a child record at any time from your profile, and deleting your account deletes them with it.

Who can see what

Profiles are readable by anyone with an account. Sessions and events respect the visibility you choose when you create them — public, friends-only, or a private link. Your visited-parks list has its own privacy setting, including a count-only option that shows the number without the list. Access is enforced in the database rather than only in the interface.

Other services

• Supabase hosts the database and handles sign-in.
• Mapbox serves the map. Loading map tiles reveals your approximate viewport to them.
• Vercel hosts the site and provides analytics and performance measurement. These are aggregate and do not use advertising cookies.

We do not sell your data, and there is no advertising in SkateNav.

What you can do

• Get a copy. Your profile has an export that returns everything keyed to your account as JSON.
• Delete your account. Also on your profile. Your personal data goes. Contributions other people rely on — park photos, reviews and ratings — stay, shown as “Deleted skater”, because removing them would take away information other skaters depend on. The deletion dialog says this before you confirm.
• Delete individual things. Comments, ratings, check-ins and photos can each be removed on their own without deleting your account.
• Turn notifications off, by type, in your account settings.
• Sign out everywhere, which revokes every session on every device.

Retention

Account data is kept until you delete it. Deletion is immediate — there is no grace period during which it can be undone. Moderation reports and administrator audit records outlive the accounts they concern, so that deleting an account cannot erase a record of what was reported.
